Mt. William Walkway Hike with Friends

Hey Everybody!

This morning Mum got a text from her friend saying that they were going on a walk! Spontaneously! (I'm happy to find that other people also like to be spontaneous.) :P She also invited us to come if we wanted to, which, obviously, we did. So we had to hurriedly get food and water ready (those of you with big families will know how much of a challenge that is to do within a couple of hours!)

Anyway, we managed to get it done, (mostly because the time we were supposed to meet with the other family kept getting later, which was great!), and met them at their house. From there, we drove for a while in the direction of the Bombay Hills. After turning off onto a few different roads, we stopped at a dead end and a sign that said "Mt. William Walkway". So we knew we were in the right place. :)

It took a short while to organize everyone and everything. (One child wanted to take a teddy bear on the walk). I also discovered that because I'd been rushing to make everyone lunch quickly, I forgot to take my drink bottle and a sweater... oops. But thankfully some of the kids like to take spare drink bottles that they store in the van. And we had a spare sweater in the van. I think Mum knew how forgetful some of us are. :D

We set off on the walk, and about 5 minutes into it, a lady passed us, and advised us not to carry on, because we had very little children, and she didn't think they could cope with the walk, since it was so muddy and steep. But we carried on. (I kinda felt a little bad just carrying on, (and effectively ignoring what she had said), but we really wanted to do it, and Mrs. Wood and Mum decided to try anyway.)

At first we were walking up a hill, on a gravel walkway, but once we got into the bush, it got muddy. So some of us held the childrens' hands while they tried not to slide (all the while hoping that if they did slide, we wouldn't slide with them!) down a steep track. A few people did trip and slide, but not too many at first. Although I did slip and slide later. Haha!
We were going to eat lunch once we reached the top, so everyone eagerly looked forward to getting there! Annamae (6), said to me, "What I really want to do right now, is eat lunch." So we stopped close to the top, and had a snack.

Lunch break was nice; we all sat down in a circle and ate whatever food we'd brought. Mrs. Wood kept asking if anybody wanted any more scones, because she had to carry them back down again! So she wanted to lighten her load as much as possible. :P They had a katydid jump into their jam, but Annamae fished it out with her knife and dumped it on the grass before promptly putting it back into the jam to make her scone. :D

Anyway, I'll share some pics with y'all now!
Mrs. Wood had to carry a baby and a heavy backpack!

Here begins the mud.

They found something interesting...

A stick insect!

Danielle and Monique. (Yes, there were two Danielles today!)

Come on, look, you guys!

And the slippery trail that doesn't actually look slippery enough.

A group pic without Mum.

Using the rope to get over the puddle without slipping.

Look at the view!

Josiah the cutie pie.

Eating lunch.

The other Danielle decided to climb down to the stream.

Hope y'all enjoy the pics!
